History of Marylebone

Chiltern Street was originally built by Henry William Portman in the 1760s and the land that The Chilterns now occupies was once home to Viscount Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand (1768-1848). In 1889, one of London’s first purpose-built fire stations was built, the Marylebone Fire Station. This Grade II listed building is now home to Chiltern Firehouse, a highly critically-acclaimed American cuisine hotel and restaurant adored by A-star celebrities and owned by American hotelier, André Balazs.

Chiltern Railways operates a collection of services on the Chiltern Main Line and London to Aylesbury Line routes, making it ideal for a weekend getaway to Buckinghamshire, parts of OxfordshireWarwickshire and the West Midlands. Destinations include High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Bicester, Banbury, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Solihull, Birmingham Moor Street, Birmingham Snow Hill, and (at peak hours) Stourbridge Junction and Kidderminster. There are also services to Stratford-upon-Avon via the Leamington to Stratford line.

The nearest Tube station to The Chilterns is Baker Street on the Bakerloo Line which is a five minute walk away, other nearby stations include, Bond Street, Marble Arch, Oxford Circus and Regent’s Park.
