Galliard Homes has now formally signed the Developer Remediation Contract.
Galliard has always supported the principle that leaseholders should not have to pay for the remediation of life critical fire safety issues in their buildings. The Group had been in negotiations with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) for some weeks with a view to signing the contract.
Prior to government intervention, we completed, in 2021 a comprehensive scheme of recladding across 11 buildings, comprising 1,100 homes, at our development at New Capital Quay in Greenwich, at no cost to leaseholders. We have been actively working to gain EWS1 forms across our sites and to date have gained certification for 29 developments. We have a specialist department, and this work is ongoing.
Following the Grenfell tragedy in 2017 and an approach by the BBC, we were steadfast in leading the project, in 2018, to rebuild two focal points for the Grenfell Community, The Dale Youth Boxing Gym and community centre that were both sadly destroyed in the fire. The project, subsequently broadcast on BBC “DIY SOS”, was a charitable endeavour during which Galliard, together with our sub-contractors, completed a 12-month job in only 12 weeks. We are hopeful that we have done something to make an impact for young people and families in the area.
As a privately owned family business we have been unfaltering in upholding the principle that leaseholders should not have to pay for the life critical fire safety issues. We believe that the government and developers together with the whole supply chain should take responsibility and share the burden of these remediation works: suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, architects, overseas developers and investors.
Galliard Homes is a responsible business, we want to create better connected communities and a better standard of living for those who live and work in the capital and beyond. We operate ethically and champion integrity in all our dealings. We engage with the communities in which we work encouraging employment, education, charity and environmental sustainability. We are committed to deliver a positive and enduring impact for all our stakeholders.
