The Help to Buy Equity Loan for New-Build Homes
First-time buyers seeking a new-build flat or house for under £600,000 were offered a lifeline from the government in April 2013 when the Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme was launched. Help to Buy allows first-time buyers to take out an equity loan for up to 20% of the purchase price of their property, which is interest free for the first five years. If the purchaser is able to secure a 75% mortgage then they would only need to pay a 5% deposit (the minimum requirement from the borrower), subject to eligibility, terms and conditions apply.
